Refrigerant Phase-Outs

Back in 2015, SJH BUILDING SERVICES was formed, and from that point onwards, we worked hard to grow the business to where it is today.

In just a short time, we’ve worked with some of Britain’s leading companies helping them to achieve their project goals. This is something that we continue to do to this day as we firmly believe that there is no ‘I’ in team.

Refrigerant Specialists

At SJH BUILDING SERVICES, our refrigeration engineers in Hampshire make a point of staying apprised of the latest changes in the industry. This includes staying informed about refrigerant phase-outs.

R-22 is a powerful greenhouse gas with a global warming potential that is 1810 (which indicates 1810 times as powerful as carbon dioxide).

The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone is an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer. The aim is to phase out the production of numerous substances believed to be responsible for ozone depletion. It is believed that if the international agreement is adhered to, the ozone layer is expected to recover by 2050.

Due to its widespread adoption and implementation, this protocol has been hailed as an example of exceptional international co-operation. Kofi Annan was quoted as saying that “perhaps the single most successful international agreement to date has been the Montreal Protocol”.

R-22 refrigerant or hydro chlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) was and still is very common in the UK. In fact, R-22 air conditioning and refrigeration systems are still in use in workplaces throughout the country. So many businesses are unaware that the Government has powers to punish any company not complying with the act. This is largely because the word is not making it out there to enough people.

Our list of happy customers goes on, so come check out the up-to-date feedback about us.

Starting from the 1st January 2015, it became illegal for companies to use any HCFCs to service RAC equipment. As a result, it is forbidden to use any HCFC that has been either recycled or reclaimed. As such, the implications for major HVAC systems still using R-22 are far-reaching. As responsible refrigeration engineers in Hampshire, we are working closely with many of our suppliers to keep the company up to date and trained on specific R-22 replacement products.

We have now decommissioned 100’s of systems across the country for ourselves. In addition, we are also currently registered with the following organisations:

Environment Agency

Institute of Refrigeration

Plus, we have more trade memberships pending, for example, MCS for air source heat pump energy assessments.

We are committed to being at the forefront of our industry and compliant with all recommendations and regulations surrounding the control of substances involved in our industry. Decommissioning is just the start of the process. We now have the infrastructure to deliver high-quality installations using premium systems.
